Media intake is... better?
This week I started the relatively new documentary 'dear white people'. I'm a little sad it is not less MA-TV but it still has been very interesting and good at letting us 'take a walk in someone else's shoes'. So far I've liked episode 4 of season 1 the best but at the end of the day the best use of my time has been reading. Have you read any recently that you like? Please share I love listening to audio books with all my daily activities.
I have goals for this future week to not be nervous about posting new things I am learning and do so in a truthful yet loving way. I want to interact with more posts positively and try to create a more safe place through my platforms to reach out to those around me. I want to finish the new book I started, The hate U give and I will update my page about it next week. I believe I have gotten down to at most 80 hours of media a week not up in 100 like I was in the previous. I hope that I can continue to use learning media and cut out my useless scrolling type media (it is good in its own way too.)
another source of media I have been intaking are Ted Talks, I was recommended a few about race and I loved them. My favorite of course was done by Bryan Stevenson, I'll attach it below because it changed my life and I hope you'll enjoy it too.

Mckenzie, I loved your blog post because I feel like you're being honest about your efforts and journey towards becoming more aware. Also, I love hearing about all the media you're taking in because it gives me ideas on things I could read and/or watch to become more aware of really important topics. I watched a Bryan Stevenson TED Talk this week and it was really awesome. I'm excited to watch this other video of him that you posted.
ReplyDeleteI think it's great that you're trying to be better about your media intake! At this point, I'm just more aware of the fact that I'm probably on my phone too much but haven't done anything about it. In one of my classes we're reading a book called "How to Be an Anti-racist." I think it would align well with what it seems like you're interested in right now. You should check it out!
ReplyDeleteSo many good things about your post! First love the educating, I read a book this summer called White Fragility about racism and that was super interesting! I also love your recommendations and will definitely check them out! Also, good for you for cutting down media time, I really need to do that. I have been debating deleting instagram but also I'm addicted haha (not funny) so I probably should do it, but really don't want to.
